Hold on for one more day

Until you have reached a point of no return and truly contemplated ‘Do I want to keep on living?’ you will never know the strength required to take your own life. Just like those who make that decision never knew how strong they really were. We will never know how many of them may have realized that they really wanted to live as they were dying.

Do not judge those who committed suicide. Do not chalk it up to ‘they have been dealing with anxiety, depression and/or taking medication for years.’ It’s not cut and dry, emotional pain, depression and heartbreak can’t be fixed with a pill. Recovery is not over night.

Look to the clouds overhead there’s an Angel who’s hoping you heed the words that’s about to be said…

When thoughts of suicide pop into your head remember your worth more alive than dead.

Lifeless body covered with a white sheet

What made you take that final leap?

Were you confused? Abused? Hurt? Afraid?

Was that the only choice you could have made?

We often think to end our life will be the end of the problem

But often times it escalates it to those you left behind.

They carry the burden, the sadness, the pain of your actions.

Death does not always bring closure or satisfaction.

It’s easy to say ‘it will get better one day’

When you’re not the one suffering emotional, physically, mentally

There is not a one word phrase or answer that can give you the strength you need to persevere

When the fight in you is gone its harder to hold on

But should you allow yourself to live for another day you are one step closer to beating the demons that try to take your life way

Hold on just once more and you open the door to life a little more.

Hang in there please stay for you can live to help extend someone else’s life another day.

Choice.Chance.Change

#choice #chance #change

There is always the #fear of the unknown. Everything that exists today is a result of someone making a choice to take a chance and oh so much has changed!!!

Every unsuccessful attempt at anything teaches you how to do it better the next time. Life's recipe is not set in stone, tweak here, a tweak there can change something from sour to sweet.

What your heart #desires is waiting for you, be diligent, be passionate, be your own change agent.

What defines you as a mother? …

IMG_9301

The nurturing discipline you provide when they start to slide

The understanding ear you give them when they come to you to share

The emptiness you feel when they are away

The joy of celebrating their birthday

The things they teach you that you thought you already knew

The love and sensitivity they bring out in you

The new found patience you never thought you had

These things and more define unlike any other

A friend, a confidant, the role of a mother

It’s beyond birthing in so many ways.

Its unselfish acts you give until the end of days.

What defines you as a mother?

It’s not always clear

But you know you must always be there

It’s far from easy and often times lonely too

Nonetheless once tasked you must follow thru

What defines you as a mother is truly hard to say

But once you’re labelled as one it’s a title that can’t be taken away

Black is nothing more to you than the absence of light…

life

#blacklivesmatter #livesmatter

Black is nothing more to you than the absence of light

Does the color of my skin make me a sin?

Does the texture of my hair determine whether or not you should care?

The whip marks from the backs of slaves transformed to tear streaked faces.

Confusion and question on why are there different rules for different races.

Jury of our peers what does that mean?

As I watch what has become a legal execution scene.

Maybe the laws of this land I just don’t understand.

How you can walk away when I saw you just kill a man?

Was your life in danger? Shhh, I must be silent, I must not question.

For on me you may turn your weapon.

Who fired the shot that started and ended it all?

Is death of the perpetrator always the final call?

Split second decisions are not easy to make.

But it always seems to end with a life you must take.

Was there ever a time when you shot to incapacitate?

Does a badge and weapon seal death as our fate?

Even to you my voice has no worth.

You started my journey 6 feet into the earth.

“I can’t breathe” you all heard me say.

Yet I was snuffed out anyway.

Instead of Miranda maybe you should just read my last rites.

Since black is nothing more to you than the absence of light…

Living the dream!

The other day I asked my friend “How are you doing?”  The response, “Living the dream!” I chuckled and we continued our conversation. Since then those words have been echoing in my head forcing me to question, “Am I living the dream?”

Every way I twist the question the answer is “ABSOLUTELY YES!”. For a minute or two my answer was leaning towards a strong no. However, the more I thought about it I realized that I am. We often default to no because we have so many dreams that go unfulfilled. We focus on what we didn’t accomplish, what we didn’t purchase, where we didn’t travel, etc. You know all the things that do not truly define what we need for our existence. The dreams that are fulfilled are defined first by what we need. IF our wants align with our needs we are even more satisfied.

I really needed to think this thru, so I created a short list of my wants versus needs:

Wants:

I want to travel with my family

I want to drive a nice care

I want to help those less fortunate.

I want to have a successful business

I want to create a positive legacy

I want retire early

I want to live long enough to see my youngest complete her education and start a career

Needs:

I need to keep a roof over my family’s head.

I need to keep food on the family table.

I need to keep clothes on my family’s back.

I need to work.

I need to appreciate the sacrifices of others.

I need to be patient.

I need to keep and always have faith.

I need to spend quality time with my family and those few true blue friends.

What’s truly amazing all my needs are being meet and they help satisfy my wants. Let me repeat, that was my short list, but at a glance how’s that for living the dream! I have so many unfulfilled dreams but they are not to be considered “deferred” for as Langston Hughes wrote:

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up

like a raisin in the sun?

Or fester like a sore–

And then run?

Does it stink like rotten meat?

Or crust and sugar over–

like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags

like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?”

My dreams will be fulfilled whether I do it, my family or my community. You see we need to expand dream building and fulfillment beyond ourselves, encompass your village. If one person fulfills a dream that you weren’t able to accomlish celebrate because it didn’t die! If you think about your ancestors, or better yet the movie Roots. Each generation made it one step further in fulfilling the dream. Where one failed the next picked up and moved forward. Epic journeys ran like a race. Each person charged with completing a certain distance then passing the baton to the next to move forward; the magic of creating legacies, each building on the success of the one prior.

Every day we see the light. Every night we see the darkness we have completed another step on Jacob’s ladder.

Who would have thought the simple 3 word response would have stimulated so much thought and re-evaluation of oneself. We also learn in those words the value of surrounding yourself with positive people.

On your darkest day, in the darkest hour, the right words can give you so much strength and power.

Yes, I am living the dream! Nightmares are only temporary; they will not define or deter me from sharing my talents and celebrating those who live theirs!
